Compound Crops

This year, due to the high food prices, we've made more of our compound available for a Parot Church garden than we have in past years. The sorghum and groundnuts that the church women (with the help of some young people and kids) have planted are doing well, overall. The compound looks quite different with these crops, as those of you who have been here before will see from these pictures. First, view from near the tin shack looking towards the car gate: sorghum on the sides of the car track and groundnuts in the middle triangle.

Firewood Day

One day a week, each student at Cush Christian School is required to bring two pieces of firewood for the Lunch Program. I enjoy seeing the various shapes and sizes of wood that they bring.

Most of their moms use firewood to cook at home, but the firewood is almost always collected by women and girls. It's an almost daily task and can be quite time consuming. So it's something different for boys to have to look for firewood. Or perhaps they have their moms or sisters get it for them--will have to ask a few and see!
